Right now I'm working as a contract employee in the accounting industry. Before that I worked at IKEA in New Haven for six years, most of the that time as the in-store accountant. I'm attending Albertus Magnus through the accelerated degree program, studying for my degree in accounting. I should be finished up by the end of mod 1 if all goes well. This semester is going to be a real challenge in order to make that possible. I'm taking four classes, plus raising two children, plus working a full-time job. I was excited to see The Museum Experience as a course offered. I have to admit though, when I read the syllabus for the course last night, I found myself with a bit of shell shock at the format. I can see this course being a real challenge for me.
Once upon a time I had hobbies also; free time is pretty much nonexistent now. I played bass for many years. I mean, I still do, but nowhere near as involved as I once was. I grew up as a kid loving bands like Rush, Metallica, The Beatles (actually, Penny's full name is Penny Layne Rallis. I pushed for Max to be Maxwell Edison but my wife thought this was too cruel to do to him), Grateful Dead, lots of bands with very prominent bass players. In addition to being a Dead Head, I am also a Parrothead. I LOVE Jimmy Buffett! I'm also a big hockey fan; the Chicago Blackhawks are my favorite team and have been as long as I can remember. Among my many tattoos, I have the team's logo on my leg, which I got after their 2015 Stanley Cup win.
So as far as scheduling out my visits to the museums, I am planning on the following:
The Met - Nov 10
The Bruce Museum - Nov 17
Yale Art Gallery - Nov 24
Wadsworth Antheneum - Dec 1
Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum - Dec 8
Florence Griswold Museum - Dec 15
That's about it for me, I guess. I welcome everybody else taking the class with me and I am excited to see where everyone else visits and what they find!
Adios!

ReplyDeleteIntroduction
ReplyDeleteHello class!
My name is Tracy Bowens, that is Tracy of the male persuasion. I am a Philosophy and Religious study major in my final year. I returned to school after a quite lengthy break in between, By lengthy, I mean decades long. I live in Hamden, am married and the father of two wonderful young men. I am employed as a scientist at Unilever in Trumbull, and am the Executive Director of a non-profit, Fixing Fathers Inc. where, as our tagline says, we help fathers be better fathers.
By way of hobbies, I enjoying reading, cooking, and, although not much lately, sculpting. My collection of sculptures numbers close to thirty. Unfortunately, due to other commitments I can’t find the time to work on anything new. Once I finish school, this will once again become a priority, or at less that’s the plan. In addition to sculpture I too have a profound appreciation for painting, owning several original pieces. Photography and music are also art forms that I enjoy.
As you might imagine as an art lover I am looking forward to be forced to go to museums. Finding the time to get into the city will be challenging but I plan on trying to maximize the day by visiting two museums while there. I am aware of how difficult that might be but combing the MET with something smaller, like the International Center for Photography, might do the trip. Despite the geographical challenges, I look for to this class and reading this blog.
Intended museum visits:
Yale Art Gallery - New Haven 11/3
Atheneum - Hartford 11/10
MET/ MOMA? - NYC 11/17
Bruce Museum - Greenwich 11/24
Mattatuck Museum - Waterbury 12/1
Yale Center for British Art - New Haven 12/8
Best wishes!
Tracy
I think the most difficult one for me to find time to go to is also the Met. I wish I had mentioned art more in my post, argh! My two favorite artists are Robert Hoppe and Jack Vettriano. Robert Hoppe did this one print, Opening Night, and it's one of my favorite prints ever. Vertriano's style and theme in his pieces is great. Most of it is probably a little too kinky for me to hang in my home (Game On, for instance), but some piece are more PG (Billy Boys, Road to Nowhere, The Singing Butler).
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with Hoppe or Vertriano, I'll have to look them up. Thanks for the share.
ReplyDeleteHello everyone, my name is Kiya.

In regard to visiting the museums I plan to follow the following schedule:

Dec8: The Bruce Museum
Dec15: Yale University Art Gallery
Hi everyone. My name is Erin Murphy and I am an accounting student. I work with veterans helping them get their benefits (and love what I do), but most of my history is in the banking industry. I am in my last year of my bachelors degree. I've never been married, but I have two furry children (cats) that love to keep me company. I am enrolled in this class as a graduation requirement and it sounds like fun. Plus, it will give me an excuse to get out to museums I've never visited or to revisit ones I've been to before. I am excited for this.
ReplyDeleteThis is my planned schedule for museum visits:
11/6 Yale Art Gallery & Yale Center for British Art
11/9 The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art
11/14 The Wadsworth Musuem
